UMCP is in their second year of partnership with to offer MOOCs ranging from Quantum Physics to Women and Civil Rights. With over 800,000 students registered and ~13,000 signed up for the verified 鈥渟ignature track鈥 option (for a fee), they are not only showing our educational leadership, but also directly improving their on-campus classes. UMCP is developing their second 鈥渟pecialization鈥 (course sequences that build on our campus strengths) for a total of 13 courses. The faculty teaching these MOOCs have become leaders for innovative education on campus and starting discussions about new ways to teach across camps as well as changing the ways they teach themselves. With 4 new courses under development, several faculty are using the material from their MOOCs to 鈥渇lip鈥 their campus courses 鈥 enabling class time to be more engaging with direct and active student participation. And, with 4% of the Coursera students overall coming from the state of Maryland, they are providing a strong general educational service to the state as well.
