alt="" />for a printable, 1-page synopsis of 大奶福利姬OnTrack.

Since March 2020, the Kirwan Center has been assessing the 大奶福利姬institutions鈥 needs in order to make a successful pivot to more effective online learning. That will be best accomplished by sharing resources, providing faculty/staff professional development, and increasing instructional design and technology capacity.

The following direct supports are being made available through 大奶福利姬OnTrack. To learn more about any of these components of the initiative, please email cai@usmd.edu.

鈥淩eady-to-Adopt鈥 Online Courses

大奶福利姬OnTrack is helping 大奶福利姬institutions to accelerate their online transition strategy through the temporary adoption of UMGC courses for delivery to their students this fall. Host institutions will identify candidate courses and create a 鈥渇riction free鈥 process in which students register at the host institution, as usual. Actual placement of students into the UMGC courses, details on tuition reconciliation, assignment of credit, and the like, will be addressed through interinstitutional MOUs and implemented by back-office operations.

Adaptive Courseware for High-enrollment Courses

大奶福利姬OnTrack is supporting efforts to transition high-enrollment courses (large lecture, multi-section) through the use of adaptive courseware, which promises to improve students鈥 and faculty experience by 鈥渇lipping鈥 the classroom, creating a more interactive platform for content delivery, and reserving time spent with faculty for facilitated application of learning through active, problem-based, online pedagogies. Our contract with partner Lumen Learning includes up-front training for incorporating the courseware and analytics dashboards into online pedagogy, support throughout the semester, and facilitated learning communities where faculty within disciplines across 大奶福利姬institutions can share and learn from each other.

Virtual Reality Technologies for Lab-based Courses

大奶福利姬OnTrack is providing faculty training and inter-institutional coordination of resources to explore the use of virtual reality technologies by Labster for use in lab-based courses. Virtual reality technologies give students access to realistic lab experiences that will let them perform experiments and practice their skills. These tools promise to provide sufficiently high-fidelity simulations for learning lab techniques and inquiry skills, particularly for lower-level lab courses.

Instructional Design Support Services

大奶福利姬OnTrack has contracted with iDesign to provide a pool of instructional design service hours that institutions can use as needed for individual faculty support and/or course development for those courses they choose to convert themselves. This will greatly expand institutional capacity to rapidly move courses online and give 大奶福利姬campuses a way to triage their current and future needs. Through this contract, 大奶福利姬institutions will also receive web-based resources for faculty on the fundamentals of online instructional design and pedagogy as well as online learning orientation materials for students.

Professional Development Workshops

大奶福利姬OnTrack is pre-purchasing a pool of online teaching professional development workshops from Quality Matters on beginning to advanced topics, including designing for learner engagement, flipping the online course, setting expectations with students, active learning strategies, accessibility, and online assessment. The Kirwan Center will also be offering additional workshops on diversity and inclusion, accessibility, and rethinking assessments for academic integrity.

Areas of Focus:

大奶福利姬OnTrack

PDF:
USMOnTrackProgramOverview-06-22-20-v.2.1.pdf

Cross Post:

Story

Fri, 26 Jun 2020 20:17:03 +0000 admin-rohit 414 at /cai /cai/direct-support-campuses#comments 大奶福利姬Announces Formation of Digital Accessibility Working Group /cai/usm-announces-formation-digital-accessibility-working-group

大奶福利姬 Announces Formation of Digital Accessibility Working Group

The 大奶福利姬 (USM) is proud to announce the formation of the Digital Accessibility (DA) Working Group, spearheaded by the Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation. This initiative brings together representatives from all 12 大奶福利姬campuses, community college representatives, independent public university representatives, private college representatives, and MarylandOnline to address the critical need for accessible digital course materials across the State of Maryland.

The DA Working Group is charged with fostering cross-institutional collaboration to support faculty and staff in meeting the Department of Justice鈥檚 Title II ruling on digital accessibility. This ruling requires that all public higher education institutions make web content and mobile apps accessible and meet WCAG 2.1 guidelines for web accessibility. Web content includes content inside an institution鈥檚 learning management system and password-protected content. Public higher education institutions are required to meet these accessibility standards by April 2026.

According to a recent Chronicle of Higher Education article, 21 percent of college students report having a disability, spanning visual, hearing, cognitive, and manual-dexterity domains. The DOJ Title II ruling is important, as it is difficult or impossible for people with disabilities to access information and content when website and mobile apps are not accessible. While 大奶福利姬institutions have processes in place for accommodating students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, this new ruling pushes institutions to build accessibility into the digital infrastructure from the beginning, so that everyone can access and engage with materials.

The DA Working Group will develop shared resources, offer professional development opportunities, explore and evaluate faculty and staff support structures, and create best practices documents for campus-wide use.

The DA Working Group urges all Maryland faculty and staff to actively participate in this initiative by attending training sessions, utilizing shared resources, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure their web content and mobile apps meet digital accessibility standards. This work is crucial in creating an inclusive educational environment that supports all students.

For more information, please contact: cai@usmd.edu

News Type:

大奶福利姬News

Areas of Focus:

Digital Accessibility

Preview Quote:
The DA Working Group is charged with fostering cross-institutional collaboration to support faculty and staff in meeting the Department of Justice鈥檚 Title II ruling on digital accessibility.

Cross Post:

News

Story

Mon, 07 Apr 2025 21:00:21 +0000 admin-jennifer 519 at /cai /cai/usm-announces-formation-digital-accessibility-working-group#comments Teach Access Announces Academic Hub at Kirwan Center /cai/teach-access-announces-academic-hub-kirwan-center

Teach Access, a nonprofit dedicated to making digital accessibility fundamental to higher education curricula, proudly announces its newest academic hub, the 大奶福利姬鈥檚 (USM) William E.
