´óÄ̸£Àû¼§Board of Regents Approves Tuition and Fees for Fiscal Year 2013

Adelphi, Md. (May 30, 2012) -- The ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§ (USM) Board of Regents today approved a tuition and fee schedule for fiscal year (FY) 2013 that establishes a 3 percent increase in full-time student tuition for in-state undergraduates at most ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§institutions.

The out-of-state undergraduate tuition rate for full-time students represents a range of zero increase, at University of Maryland University Maryland College, to a maximum 5 percent increase at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

Tuition for a full-time, in-state undergraduate student at UMCP, the ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§flagship campus, has been set at $7,175 for the 2012-13 academic year, an increase of $209 (or $104.50 per semester) from 2011-12.

The approved mandatory fees will support student activities and, in certain cases, the construction of major building projects. The complete list of FY 2013 tuition and fees for ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§institutions can be seen at .

"During the recent special legislative session, the USM avoided the sweeping cuts that loomed in the so-called ‘doomsday budget.' However, it is important to note that the ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§did not go without spending cuts in the budget passed by the General Assembly," ´óÄ̸£Àû¼§Chancellor William E. "Brit" Kirwan said.

"Thanks to the support of the Governor and the General Assembly, I think the System's management of tuition levels and costs is quite remarkable and stands out very favorably to the routine, double-digit percentage increases in tuition that we see around the country."

At Salisbury University, a special 6 percent increase for in-state undergraduate tuition was approved for a second straight year. The 6 percent increase is part of a scheduled, three-year special adjustment to raise the institution's historically low in-state tuition to a level consistent with its peer institutions.  Annual tuition at Salisbury University for a full-time, in-state undergraduate will be $5,576 during the 2012-13 academic year.
