大奶福利姬Regent Orlan M. Johnson Honored as "Trailblazer" by U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
Adelphi, Md. (March
18, 2011) — University
System of Maryland (USM) Regent Orlan M. Johnson has been honored by the U.S.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a "trailblazer" by the SEC's
African American Council.
A
resident of Prince George's County, Regent Johnson was appointed to the USM
Board of Regents in July 2002.
A
partner in the business department of Saul Ewing, in Washington, D.C., he was confirmed
by the U.S. Senate to serve as chair of the Board of Directors of the
Securities Investor Protection Corporation. He is a member of the boards of
directors for the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the University of Maryland
Medical System Corporation.
He
served as a branch chief for the SEC, serving nine years for the commission's Division
of Investment Management.
"To come back here and be honored after so many years and to be honored
with such a distinguished award is humbling," Regent Johnson said at
a recent ceremony in his honor, held at SEC headquarters.
"I encourage all African Americans
and people of all races to not be limited by your family, social status, or
challenging circumstances, but to remember that you do not always have to be a
product of your environment, but you can be a product of your expectations."
Regent
Johnson is a 1984 graduate of Andrews University and a 1987 graduate of Howard
University School of Law.
